Music, stories & more at 287 Main: Prinkipo Band kicks off local residency with A Quick Trip to The Mediterranean
NYC-based ensemble shares music (and stories) of Turkey, Greece, and the Eastern Mediterranean in it's first-ever four-stop Schoharie County tour. Schoharie, Middleburgh, Cobleskill and Sharon Springs.SEEC’s 287 Main opened its doors to the music-curious Saturday for the local kick-off concert of the Prinkipo Band, a five-person ensemble that partners the traditional and folk music of Turkey, Greece, and the Eastern Mediterranean with interactive storytelling
Something different in a place where summer means music of all sorts, often outdoors, under the stars or tent, several nights a week.
Prinkipo’s Schoharie County residency was sponsored by the New York State Council on the Arts with other performances taking the stage at the Middleburgh and Cobleskill libraries and Sharon Springs Central School.
The NYC-based ensemble is Fuat Caner Tokgozol on oud, Sal Mamudoski on clarinet, Gilbert Mansour on percussion, Dila Oktay on classical kamancheh, and Ozlem Rozanitis as vocalist.
What’s a classical kamancheh? Catch them next time to find out or find them on Instagram.
And keep an eye on SEEC’s 287 Main.
Prinkipo could just be the start of music in the Gallery.
